Week ending 14th September by MAson Norton

The midweek action sadly came off the pitch in the LSL, as GNG Oadby Town Development became the third casualty in Everards Brewery Division Two, after Bottesford and Kibworth Town just before the opening day, with GNG citing the inability to raise a team and fulfil fixtures as the reason for their departure. That leaves just eight teams in the division, with the League's Management Committee conscious that this could result in some teams finishing their scheduled campaigns as early as Christmas. As such, the Committee are discussing potential options to try and ensure that the surviving teams have some fixtures after the New Year to fill in the remainder through to the end of the season on 27 April. GNG's record has been expunged, whilst Stoneygate FC, GNG's opponents in the first round of the Saturday Trophy two weeks ago when GNG were unable to raise a side, have been awarded a walkover to the next round- the same also applies to Melton Town Academy, who had been due to face GNG Development next week in the first round of the City Goldsmiths President's Trophy.

GNG's resignation resulted in some table amendments in Div2 prior to this weekend's action, most notably leaving St Patricks three points behind leaders Loughborough Students Development, but with a game in hand. That is how things remained at the end of the weekend as well. The Students travelled to Beaumont Park, which belongs to De Montfort University in Leicester, to face Melton Town Academy, and continued their rampage through the division with a 12-0 win. Felipe Sebastian Morales Moya scored four goals, Owen James and Hugo Stephenson both bagged braces, and the other scorers were Dylan Hacon, Callum Hamilton, Dan Hawkes and sub Joseph Aston, with the Students doing their goal difference no harm at all by scoring seven in the first half and five in the second. St Patricks, meanwhile, travelled up to Loughborough and won 4-2, with a brace of braces for Jamie Bottomley and Jack Hickey in the first half doing the damage for the visitors, whilst Owen Clarke had given the hosts hopes of a shock by giving them the lead after just four minutes, but by the time Vai Dalpat added their second just after the hour mark, the game was gone.

There was, however, an upset at Rothley, who dropped a place in midweek from third to fourth after GNG's record was expunged, and lost further ground when they lost 2-1 at home to bottom team Sileby Town Reserves. Stephen Allen scored for Rothley in the first half, but Callum Glover scored either side of the break for Sileby, who recorded their first League win of the season. They remain bottom, but are only a point behind the Luffs, with two games in hand on them, though after earlier resignations, there is no relegation in operation in Div2 this season. Mountsorrel Amateurs moved into third after the table adjustments, and stayed there after a late goal from Liam Turner gave them a 3-2 win at home to Desford & Caterpillar Reserves. Louis Abel also scored for Mountsorrel, with Ben Wilson and Pele Molyneaux for Desford, Mountsorrel four points behind St Patricks, and just about keeping alive an outside chance of automatic promotion.
