There were five matches in the Leicestershire & Rutland County FA Senior Cup Second Round in midweek which involved teams in the Everards Leicestershire Senior League. League leaders Allexton and New Parks went out after a 2-1 defeat away to Step 6 Midland League Division One side Ingles. Zak Adams gave ANP the lead, but Ingles got onto level terms through sub Cameron Smith, before Billy Snaith scored the winner for the Thringstone side four minutes from time. Meanwhile, it was more comfortable for fellow Midland League side Heather St John, who won 4-1 away to LSL Premier team Aylestone Park Reserves.

There was better news for the LSL after Desford and Caterpillar defeated last year's Senior League champions Asfordby, who now play at Step 6 in the UCL Division One. Yaro Phillips came off the bench to make it 1-1, which was how the scores finished after 90 minutes, with Desford winning 4-3 on penalties to come away from the Acres with a quarter-final spot.

There was an all-LSL tie at Riverside Park, where two teams at the wrong end of the Premier faced each other. Barrow Town eventually defeated Thurnby Rangers 4-3, Farran Pope (2) and Austin Enekwe scoring for Thurnby, Barrow scorers not yet in.

Wednesday night should have seen two ties, but a waterlogged pitch put paid to Ellistown at home to Kirby Muxloe from the UCL, with that tie now being reversed to Kirby to be played next Tuesday- Kirby now the last UCL side left in the competition after Birstall United went down 5-3 away to Midland League Div1 title-chasers Hinckley AFC.

That led to two sides from the Northamptonshire border to play each other, as the LSL's North Kilworth hosted Northants Combination team Medbourne, who defeated Cottesmore in the last round. Medbourne almost pulled it off, but NK hung on, and managed to equalise through a late penalty to make it 2-2, before going through to the last eight after winning 3-1 in the shoot-out.

A bumper edition of Ramble Round follows this week, with Ramble Round the County Cups looking at Burbage-Hathern, plus rearranged ties across the other Saturday competitions featuring LSL teams, Ramble Round the Premier for games in the Prem, and Ramble Round the Divisions for the surviving games. See you then.
