Week ending 7th October by Mason Norton

At the top of Everards Brewery Division One, Anstey Town made it eight from eight after a 2-1 win away to Sutton Bonington on Saturday, Jordan Small and sub Darren Taylor scoring, Ayomide Ayodele scoring for SB. Town also increased their lead, as all the chasing pack dropped points. Dunton & Broughton United and Leicester Atletico took each other out, drawing 1-1 at Dunton Bassett, Mohamed Hogsade giving Atletico the lead before Josh Wright equalised for Dunton. In the meantime, Kirby Muxloe Reserves were unable to capitalise, being held to a 2-2 draw away to Sporting Markfield, Andrew Culver and Connor Helps for Markfield, Callum Key and Diego Ramos for Kirby. All that leaves Town 11 points clear of DBU, Atletico and Kirby; though the latter two have one game in hand on the leaders, and Dunton two games, it's already starting to look like a commanding lead for Anstey Town.

Despite picking up that point, Markfield remain in the bottom two, three points adrift of Holwell Sports Reserves, who were thumped 8-0 at home to Hinckley LR Reserves on Saturday, Josh King leading the way with a hat-trick, Sam Carroll, Brogan Greenwood, Jude Kutshienza (2) and Micah Rowe coming off the bench providing the other goals- Hinckley, with that win, are just a point off the second promotion spot, which in contrast to the title race, is looking like an intriguing four-way contest. Barrow Town Reserves remain rock-bottom and pointless after losing 4-0 at home to Ingles Development, who eased their own relegation concerns in the process, Owen Brader, Louis Clarke and Jake Turner the scorers.

In Everards Brewery Division Two, morning leaders Loughborough Students Development were sidelined when scheduled visitors GNG Oadby Town Development were unable to raise a side. Second-placed St Patricks took advantage, and drew level on points and games with the leaders with a 3-0 win at bottom side Sileby Town Reserves, Jamie Doherty, Sean Doy and Jack Hickey the scorers for the Pats. Rothley Imperial moved into third after a 3-1 win at Loughborough FC, Stephen Allen (2) and Riley Kerr for Rothley, Karan Anbhavne for Luffs, but Rothley are five points behind both the Students and the Pats, and have played one game more, so look outsiders already for the top two.

The only other game saw Desford & Caterpillar Reserves put some distance between them and the bottom spot after winning 1-0 away to Melton Town Academy. Desford's only goal was scored by veteran club stalwart and chairman Simon Goodman rolling back the years once again...

There's no midweek action this week in the LSL, and the pick of the fixtures next Saturday is in the Premier, where there's a top-of-the-table clash at New College, as Allexton & New Parks host Desford & Caterpillar, looking to strengthen their grip on the Premier Division lead. With action from that game, as well as all the others, Ramble Round returns next week. See you then.
